Jamie Oliver's campaign

Jamie Oliver is a British chef and health activist with a plan to help the world overcome obesity.

Food Revolution

In 2009 using his passion to fight child obesity, Jamie traveled down to Huntington, West Virginia as this city was deemed one of the unhealthiest cities in the US in a survey conducted in 2006. Here, he introduced his "Food Revolution" program with a goal to bring healthier foods to kids by reforming school cafeteria food and eliminating sugary drinks and processed foods.

Summary

Jamie discusses in the first clip that root of the problem causing obesity is what we're feeding and teaching our children. These children are the future, and their habits are going to passed down to the next generation and the next. This is why it is important for school to be feeding their students the right nutritional foods. Many family rely primarily on school foods to provide breakfast and lunch to their kids. Especially when students are young and don't know any better, it is up to the adult supervision to provide a proper form of energy so they can perform better both academically and physically.

The second clip provides insight on what the extreme of years of neglect can lead to. The mother's habit of consuming only junk food is unfortunately being taught to her kids. Her kids are either going to die prematurely due to obesity just like many others in their city, or she can learn from Jamie and actually try to change her poor habits in order to save her children's lives.

The last clip lists the factors that Jamie knows needs reformation in order for any real positive change to occur for the obesity rates in the US and UK. Again he states that the primary source are the school foods. He summarizes that not only is it the government and school's jobs to provide healthy foods to both students and adult workers, but actually teaching basic cooking can solve many of these issues. When people understand the detrimental effects of junk foods and know how to cook their own foods, the root of the problem is now manageable by the individual with no outside help.
